About KALPARRIN
Kalparrin is a dynamic non-government disability organisation. As an Incorporated body Kalparrin is overseen by a Committee of Management comprising of community minded individuals with an interest in disability services. Kalparrin's support staff are trained, knowledgeable and skilled in the field of disability services. Kalparrin is funded by the NSW Department of Ageing Disability & Home Care.
Kalparrin's History
In 1989 a small group of community-minded citizens saw there was a need for a service that would cater for school leavers (aged 18 and over); who had moderate to high support needs in the Albury/Wodonga region.
In 1989 a grant of $8,000 was made available through the Rural Access Program to conduct a study to determine the level of need in Albury and the surrounding area. This study demonstrated clearly that a need existed for over 100 clients seeking recreational and leisure activity programs.
In 1991, Kalparrin became an incorporated body and was successful in securing funding through NSW State Governments' Post School Options Program. This program was established specifically to enable school leavers to engage in further skills development and community activities. Kalparrin officially commenced services in 1993.
Through fundraising efforts, in 1995 Kalparrin purchased its current service facility in Kiewa Street. Today Kalparrin leases two additional facilities to meet the Post School Program needs of clients. In 2007 Kalparrin purchased a 5-acre property in Lavington to cater for our continued growth. Our Lavington property will eventually become the new home of Kalparrin's services and offer a range of activities for our Day Programs and Respite consumers.
Over time our service has grown. Kalparrin now provides a range of Post School Programs and Centre Based Respite services following our successful tender for Centre Based Respite Services in 2007. Kalparrin operates its Centre Based Respite Service from a modern home purchased and modified by the Department of Ageing Disability & Home Care in Layton Lane East Albury.
